Ah, music...I wasn't sure what I was going to do for this week. I got a stamping plate from Cheeky that I wasn't expecting for a couple more weeks, so I was going to do the music notes, staff, instrument thing, but then...the VMA's happened (and just an FYI - this is one of the rare posts where I have video's embedded; with this challenge topic, I couldn't pass up the opportunity). For those that don't know, MTV has an annual Video Music Award program, and no, it is not Miley Cyrus inspired. That would have been a nude colored polish with a mouth and tongue accent nail...oh yea, and a foam finger worked in somewhere...
No, my inspiration for this manicure is that scrumptious man whose pelvis she was grinding her butt into - Robin Thicke. I admit, I just jumped on the Thicke bandwagon this year after I heard "Blurred Lines" back in March. The video for that song doesn't leave much inspiration for a mani, but his second song, "Give it 2 U" (I HATE the lame wording - we really can't spell out "to" and "you"?) does. The lyrics for both songs are not for the easily offended - and neither are the videos, for that matter - but they are very upbeat, dance-in-your-seat catchy mixes that are perfect ear candy for a long commute on Chicago roadways.
If you do watch the video, the woman in his lap in the mini-monster trucks is his wife, and the almost too cute little blond boy is his son.
The mani is based on the outfits for: the girl with the gum (red outfit), Cotton Candy girl, Albany State University group The Golden Passionettes, Alabama State Stingettes, and the crazy ass suit the man himself wears in the video.
UPDATE: I had to add these in - they are both awesome!
First up - Jimmy Kimmel:
And now - Jimmy Fallon:
OK, I need to get back on topic here. Focus, focus!
Colors Used:
Wet n Wild - A Blank Canvas (white)
Wet n Wild - Black Crème
Sinful - Over It (pink)
Sinful - Tidal Wave (blue)
Misa - Someone Like You (nude/beige)
Flower - Budding Romance (red)
Wet n Wild Fergie - Gold Album
I had fun with this one, but I will admit it won't stay on too long...it's just a little too crazy for me. Plus, I don't want to have to explain it to people.
Take a look at everyone else's contributions for this week below.
See ya!

LOL!!!! I was so close to doing a Robin Thicke striped mani!!!! Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You rock!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Thanks! That suit is god-awful, but made for a fun part of the mani!
DeleteLove it!!
ReplyDeleteI have his first album "A Beautiful World" which is really soulful. Not sure how I feel about him now though, I have heard he is pretty sleazy and a bit of a douche lol
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with this mani :D
LOL! I didn't watch the videos, the now-a-teen was here, I'm going to have to sneak back later and watch them! I love the mani, though since I've only seen the VMA performance, I still think you need a Miley attached to his crotch nail! LOL! Just kidding!
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, love the mani, especially the stripes!
I really like Blurred Lines and that was the first I'd heard of him - I have to dance and sing along any time I hear it!
ReplyDeleteLove that you chose him as your inspiration, and I love the Jimmy Fallon video! Thanks for sharing it :)
I didn't know what to do for this week either but I wish I thought of this! Robin Thicke.... YUM! LOL I love that you used him as inspiration! Your nails came out so great!!! :)
ReplyDeleteIt is not Miley Cyrus inspired. That would have been a nude colored polish with a mouth and tongue accent nail. ---> ROTFL!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job here, but I must admit that I didn't know this song and the singer... Shame on me!!!
I'm not really on the Robin Thicke train, but what a great idea for inspiration. And, from the very bottom of my heart, thank you for not doing a Miley-themed mani. I've seen enough of her tongue to last my lifetime and beyond!
ReplyDeleteI love Blurred Lines! Didn't know the rest. Your skittlette is great!
ReplyDeleteHahaha, I love your description of Miley Cirus manicure! Great manicure!
ReplyDeleteI love this! So creative.
